UNIVERSITY-LEVEL PRODUCT SAFETY EDUCATION COURSES


For more than a decade, Saint Louis University’s Richard Chaifetz School of Business has been offering product safety management education programs to consumer product companies around the world. Over 300 product safety professionals from more than 100 national and international consumer product companies have earned certificates through these courses.  In 2012, these programs were recognized by the Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for their contribution to safe products through university-level education. The programs are known for their multidisciplinary methodology which defines the field of product safety management through five primary knowledge areas that constitute an effective product safety system: culture, risk management and assessment, regulatory compliance, data management and product investigations, and product recalls.

CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM (view description)

MARCH 11-JUNE 25

The individual certification program has been developed through a collaboration involving the Society of Product Safety Professionals, Consumer Product Safety Certification Services, and Saint Louis University’s Emerson Leadership Institute. The Certification Program focuses on five key areas of knowledge necessary to design and manage an effective product safety system. The program features a 2-day opening workshop, weekly webinars on product safety topics, and a closing 2-day assessment workshop that includes a multiple-choice examination and case study presentation. Individuals successfully completing the program receive the designation of Certified Product Safety Professional™.

PRODUCT SAFETY MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM (view description)

APRIL 15-AUGUST 6

The Product Safety Management Certificate Program offers participants a basic introduction to the fundamental requirements in building an effective product safety system. The course covers risk assessment, regulatory compliance, product investigations, data management, international product safety, and product recalls. The program features a 2-day opening workshop on campus, followed by a series of bi-weekly webinars covering specific product safety topics. The programs closing workshop features presentations by each participant on a case study they have developed with company and Saint Louis University approval. Individuals who successfully complete the program receive a Certification of Completion, Product Safety Management.



ADVANCED PRODUCT SAFETY MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

SEPTEMBER 21-24

The Advanced Product Safety Management Certificate Program is open to individuals with more than 5 years of experience in a product safety-related position, or who have successfully completed the university’s Product Safety Management Certificate Program. The course deals with the nuances that more senior people may face. This may include company culture, individual and team leadership, best practices in product safety, crisis management often involving a system failure resulting in product incidents, and reporting-related factors. This is an executive style program involving a high level of instructor interaction and participant engagement.
